Reports of trace amounts of Prozac being detected in british water supplies are causing alarm. Government conspirecist (sp?) go nuts.

A recent /. post pointed to an article about a new type of photovoltaic device (solar pannel) that is somewhat transparent and can function as a glass covering much like modern skyscrapers are clad with. It allows 10% of the suns rays to pass (which doesn’t sound like much.) and can also function as a video screen (which the 10% thing and the light absorbtion of the PV would hurt the performance of.) I’m not sure about the video part, but otherwise they seem pretty cool.
Looking for new music, know of a great band and want to find more out there like them, then check out Music Plasma It’s a music search engine that illistraits similar likes in an interest flash form. Apparently it makes use of Amazon.com’s
“people who shopped for X also looked at Y.” Give it a try, it’s an interesting presentation of the data reguardless.
I was reading around on a friend of mine’s blog and clicked on her profile. Her interest where hyperlinks to search of people with similar interst. While just playing around with that i ran across this girl/lady/woman’s site, CowGirlKat. She seemed pretty cool and seemed to have been to some pretty cool places so i came up with an idea. I’m going to start collecting personal sites (hopefully/mainly ones with blogs) on my links page. I’m going to create a section called cool people that i don’t know. I’m just going to put their name/handles and links to their site. I wonder if they’ll ever go searching for themselves on google or something and find the link on my site and contact me. That would be cool i suppose. That or maybe i’ll get bored and contant some of them. At any rate thanks go to CowGirlKat for inspiring me with the idea.
Attenting Guerilla Drive-In would be a cool way to pass a lazy summer after noon. These articles discuss a growing fad in which groups of people gather in (semi-)public spaces to watch movies. The improvements in projector technologies and the reduction in price has made it possible to put together a do-it-yourself outdoor theater for not much over $1000. The group primarilly mentioned in the article has information up about their operation and even has a page about how to start your own. They currently pay no royalties for the exhibited movies, but charge no admission (which apparently is still against the copyright.) Their other issue (which is specific to that and possibly other areas) is the closure of public parks/places at dark. They often use other properties, without permission, but haven’t run into any problems doing so.
This sounds like a really cool idea, in fact i’m half tempted to try to get something like this started. The only sticking point would be the projector. I don’t really feel like ploping down $1000 bucks on one. I know a couple of people that i could probably get interested in the idea. I think if i was to try and do it i would try to do it around UK. We shall see, I dobut i’ll follow through on the idea, but it would be cool if i did.
